Sound Intelligence was founded in 2000, based on research at the departments of Biophysics and Artificial Intelligence of Groningen State University (RuG), into the mechanisms underlying human hearing. The company, based in Groningen's city center, has completely specialized on the development of advanced technology for the detection and analysis of sound.

The patented methods developed over the past years form the basis of Sigard aggression detection. A successful pilot study in Groningen's city center early 2005 rapidly increased the exposure of and demand for the Sigard system. Currently the system has been implemented successfully in many security related projects.

Most important application areas are inner cities, prisons, service desks and public transport.
